Fave Products & Services

On the road, there are several products and services that make life easier, but folks mostly talk about tire pressure monitors (TPS) and the like. Not that a TPS isn’t super helpful, but I’m sharing links here that one might not usually think about for the road like credit cards and coupons.

Please not that this page contains affiliate links to products. I may receive a commission for purchases made through these links. However, this does not impact my recommendations. These are all products or services that I genuinely use and would recommend regardless.

Banking:

CapitalOne: Banking was one of the first issues that required sorting when I hit the road. I’d used local credit unions since opening my first savings account at age seven. I have a complex credit history due to pre-internet identity theft in my teens. That means that a typical go-to for nomads, because of great features like reimbursement for ATM fees worldwide, Charles Schwab, denied me as a customer. *ouch*

That’s ok, pain happens! That denial led me to set up savings, checking, and credit card accounts with CapitalOne which has been a personal boon. CapitalOne has only gotten better since I started banking with them, too. I can always find a fee free ATM even in rural areas and they’re constantly adding more ATMs. The app is easy to use with credit report tracking included as well as many other features like cash back rewards and no annual fees.

NOVO: I ran into similar issues when I went to open a business bank account. There were many expensive fees and monthly minimums for business bank accounts that were simply too much for my small business. NOVO saved me from that frustration with a straight forward, fee free, minimum free business checking account. I’ve been using NOVO almost since their inception and have had a positive experience so far. I highly recommend NOVO for small business owners!

Camp Memberships:

Have you seen an unsatisfied Harvest Hosts member, yet? Exactly, they don’t exist! Of all of the RVing memberships I’ve had over the years, Harvest Hosts is one that I’m sure to maintain. The folks you meet and the gorgeous places you’d otherwise miss out on are so fun, you forget free camping is the main amenity of this membership.

Coupons:

Who isn’t looking for a little cash back on purchases you’ll make regardless? I grew up a couponer (not extreme, just basic lol) and technology has only made couponing easier. It’s nice to have a resource to dip into when you need an extra $20 or to save up your rewards for something special.

I make sure that the time I’m spending on couponing is less than the money I’m getting back, so I prefer simple and quick coupon apps. Standing in line is the perfect opportunity to scan receipts or add items in Ibotta. If you’re someone who doesn’t want their purchases logged and tracked online, digital couponing is not your thing. I’ve tried several coupon apps over the years and these are my favorites-

  1. Ibotta is the most complex out of these three apps. There’s more to it than simply scanning receipts, but that’s because the reward is higher. In the past three years that I’ve used the Ibotta app, I’ve earned back $391 so far. You do have to reach a balance of $20 before cashing out via gift cards or PayPal and the coupons are mostly for chain stores.

In Ibotta, you first search for the store you’re shopping in, add coupons from the list available, and finally scan in the receipt. Sometimes, you’ll be asked to scan in an item after the receipt, so I prefer to use Ibotta before putting my groceries away. You can also use Ibotta for online shopping if you shop via the app itself. I’ve earned tons back from my Amazon purchases even though grocery stores and pharmacies are my biggest cash back source in Ibotta.

My favorite part about Ibotta is that I don’t fall into traditional coupon traps of buying stuff I don’t usually or don’t need. There are coupons for items I’m already purchasing and my favorite category “any brand item” has coupons from 10-75 cents for standards like bread, eggs, and condiments. Even if nothing you’ve purchased has a coupon available, you can sometimes earn 10-25 cents just for scanning the receipt into the app.

Use Code: qjixiij in the app and we’ll BOTH get $10 in the Ibotta app!

2. Receipt Hog is a long game, but it’s easy to use and since I’m already scanning receipts, it’s nothing extra for me to do. You earn a certain amount of coins and/or slots for each receipt you add that you can trade in for gift cards or cash via PayPal once you reach a certain amount.

I like to allow my coins to accumulate to the highest reward available which means I’ll cash it out via direct money to my PayPal account about once a year. There’s also a casino slots gaming aspect to Receipt Hog where you can win more coins. You can add receipts from nearly anywhere in Receipt Hog which is awesome for small business shopping!

Use Code: dap36922 when you start your account and add a qualifying receipt for us BOTH to get a Receipt Hog reward.

3. CoinOut is another easy to use app that gives you anywhere from 1-20 plus cents for each receipt you add. There are several ways to earn more money back like bonuses for connecting your email and receipts from online shopping. I use CoinOut predominately for receipt scanning.

I’ll even pick up receipts left in the gas station pump or in my shopping cart, because sixteen cents per receipt adds up! You can add receipts from nearly anywhere in CoinOut just like in Receipt Hog which is awesome for small business shoppers like me. You can cash out at any time via your bank or Amazon, but I like to use PayPal which means I can cash out once my balance reaches $20.00.
